Wondering how you like it?? I love kids (I am 26 and my gf has a 2 y/o) and thought about being a teacher. I am unemployed at the moment and thought about going back to school to be something like a K-4 grade. Haven't narrowed down the grade yet....
Anyway, I have talked to a couple teachers in the past and they have said that, while they don't make a whole lot while teaching, you actually make more when you retire (and you can retire at 55?).
I am a BIG dude (6'2", 300) and should be doing deliveries or something using my body, but I was in a car accident about 6 years ago and have never been the same since (degenerative disk disease, tons of metal throughout my body). This means I have little use of my left hand if it includes gripping or holding.

my wife loves it, she is 25...trouble for us is getting a job...she has been looking for maybe 2yrs now or so...the past two jobs had been maternity leave and a istep remediator this year...its really hard not having something permanent wondering what will happen in the summer...there are hundreds upon hundreds of resumes for every single position open...so its hard(at least here)...sad to see when there have been a lot of terrible teachers popping up that have no morals anymore...yet hard for someone like my wife to be able to get in permanently...but anyways, for maternity she did 5th grade, which was insanely tough, she had to suspend like 9 kids or something because you'd have kids looking up ---- on laptops at school, try to grab other kids...it was sad the stories she brought home...but she does love it still, just maybe the younger kids...if you do good luck!!

Getting hired by the district is certainly the hard part. Being certified in only K-4 will make it more difficult unless you live in an area with MANY schools. Positions do not open up frequently. You may have to substitute teach for a few years first until something opens up. You can take a look at the benefits and retirement plans that your schools offer. I don't know the website for your state, but NY is NYSED.org it should be something similar. Google it.

my mom subbed for a while, the same time she was taking classes online, they hired her on as a permenant sub, then when she finishes they will hire her on full time.
