I've heard reports of Arson. This is defienitely a bad situation and its not much firefighters can do since the fires are covering such a wide spread area. I know that alot of these people are wealthy, however loosing your home and the memories is horrible no matter how rich you are. I also have heard that area has 2 more months of "fire season"

Yes, but if it all burns to the ground now, the next two months should be smooth sailing.
Last year we didn't get much of the winter rain which ends the fire season. If that happens again we may see a longer fire season. (if there's anything left to burn, that is)

Glad to hear you are alright.
The RB fire is causing our smoke issues, but it looks like the fire is well to the south of us...for now anyway.
Ditto with the nosebleeds, it is so dry here and the smoke makes it worse.

FOR SURE!
At last lightning is pretty to watch...smoke is pretty ugly 'til sunset or at sunrise then it makes for some pretty cool colors.

I was in S.D. until Sunday afternoon, the wind is really making things worse, taking I-8 home to Phoenix, my 4,500 lbs. car was all over the place from the high winds. Good luck to anyone there.

Sorry about my middle of the night rambilng.
SoCal, you guys have it worse that us. I feel for you, that breathing smoke all the time is just plain awful! The Santa Ana's make me feel bad to begin with, but add the smoke on top and is just a bad situation. Make sure your pictures and videos are in your truck, everything else can be replaced.
Sunday we were keeping an eye on the Malibu fire when smoke started to come over us. 3:30 is was pretty dense and by 4:00 everything was orange. Kind of freaked my daughter out, my sone just got inot his PJs, hey why not, it is dark out. It turns out the smoke was not from the Malibu fire about 20 miles away, but from the Aqua Dulce fire about 45 miles away.
At least the winds have seemed to calm down a little.
GOOD LUCK To you!

It is times like this when I would like to go back in time and meet the person that thought of the shake roof (Wood shingles) and ask them "So you are in an area that gets 300 days of sunshine a year and little rain. You decide to put wood on the roofs, so it can sit there and dry out, what were you thinking???

Everyone is sold out of paint and surgical masks.
Wal-Mart had bandanas so we bought a few.
It is very orange outside.
There is a film of ash on everything and anything you touch will turn your hands (and white shirt) black.
Our dog (yes, we now have a dog) is acting strange, but our rabbit is acting just fine.

I heard mention of some looting. Disaster seems to bring out the worst in people as well as the best. I'm going to load the .45 with hollow points and pray I don't need it.

Been at work now for a few days, dealing with possible emergency situations. I'm the Region Engineer for So Cal Gas, my region: LA and Orange counties. We have people here 24 hours a day in these situations.
On a different note, the Santiago Canyon Fire/Irvine Fire was started by Arsen? Honestly, who does that? I hope the sheriff's department catches those people who go out and do that sort of thing. URG! Now for my state-mandated 8 hour sleep period.
Regards

you read my mind. Won't hurt. The same losers that wander through hurricane areas are probably the same that are feeling like this is a perfect opportunity. Just make your house look and sound occupied around the clock.
Your dog knows somethings wrong, they always do.
Next time you have to opportunity (for future use and hope you don't have to use them) pick up the face respirators that are rated N 95. Maybe $6 bucks for 2 at Home Depot/Lowes etc. The are also recommended for any major flu outbreaks i.e. bird flu etc. Do you know anyone that works for a Doctor that has a few masks that you can use for your family?

I actually have some. We are in the process of moving (need to be out of apt. by Nov 1) and they are packed in an unmarked box somewhere. We wet the bandanas to make them more effective. We don't really know anyone other than our neighbors downstairs and they moved here from Illinois last year. (no doctors...not even an oral hygenist)

OH.....I forgot about you moving. So is your new house in the fire's crosshairs? WOW, I bet this has put a damper on the packing time.
I think someone needs to come up with flame retardant house covers or something along those lines. Someone in FLA invented a hurricane cover for houses...........same thing

New house is only a couple blocks away from where we live now, so it's not in harms way...yet.
And yes, it put a major damper in the move. Carpet was to be installed this week and no call from them yet. Tile guy had to go evacuate his family from Del Mar. I don't want to track ash into the place so I only took one load to the garage today. Only 7 days left and I'm getting a little nervous.
