Anybody ever had a Chili coral?

i had a red chili dog and it gave me heartburn so try to stay away from them. lol. sorry about that but i had to do it, i've never had experience with a red chili coral.

Yes, I have one. Not too interesting since it shrivels up during the day and only extend at nite while the lights are off. It can double in size while lights are out.
Needs to be placed in a dark part of the tank...the darker the better, where lots of current flows. It does tend to get algae on it, so you have to be careful with that or the algae will choke it out. Its definately a nocturnal creature!

yea, its pretty at night, but during the day when you'll probally be looking at your tank you wont be to impressed. I have been told that even though there better at night, some have, over time adapted to low light and open during the day. the white polyps are pretty.
if i had it to buy over again i would have wasted my money on something else.

actually a filter feeder, so unless you are adding Phytoplankton or other suspended food, they'll eventually shrivel back. Keep this in mind when you look at those nice yellow tree gorgonians with the red spots and white polyps and orange tree sponges: same deal. I've had a small one in my 12 gal that was donig well, but a large toadstool leather grew part way over it, and smothered it enough to prevent it from feeding properly.
