i have a friend that has a tank and he has a problem. it's a reef tank and he says that when he turns out the lights a million of these little shrimp like creatures come out. i thought he was talkin about copepods or amphipods, but then he said they attack his fish. every fish he puts in there gets eaten and disappears the next day. any ideas?

Try a search for Cirolanid Isopods. I hate to say that but it sounds like it could be. It is rare that we see them in the hobby, I have only read one other thread on another site that was a confirmed case. He won't like the options he has to get rid of them if that is indeed what he has.

I'm wondering if the fish are dying and pods are eating the remains?

That is a fairly bold statement for pods eating a dying fish. I wish I could post a thread from another site where this whole issue was discussed in depth to the point that most people did not believe the OP's assertion that he has Cirolanids. I believe they even got to the point where they were going to send samples to Ron Shimek for positive identification.

Isopods are symbiants arent they? so they will try to keep their host alive as long as possible. But I agree that has got be captured on film...

I've seen pods eat dead/dying zoanthids I got through an online purchase. They didn't open and on that first night I saw the frag plug crawling with copepods.

Your friend needs to try and catch one and then try to post a pic. Maybe a fish tray with some meat in it will catch them?
