here is the prob I had with carfax. Its great, really, but it all rests on everything being report that is done to that car. We saw the owner, when it was purchased, not accidents (reported) and it was not totalled out. Unless we did it wrong, that is what I felt about it. The person who have the title should show you FRONT and back also. Make sure front dosn't say salvage. But hopefully someone can help you and it will be interesting to see if the $40 version is different from the dealer version.

trust me Im 100% with you. Any joe Smith can slam into a parked car run and go get it fixed at his shady body shop and you may never know. Im almost certain its my old mustang I owned about 7 years ago. If It is Im probably going to rebuy it.
Also in certain states even if its totaled out if its fixed within certain criteria they can give you a new title that doesnt say salvaged on it.
