Adjustable power supply from electronics dept. at Wal-Mart. I just cut the terminal off the end and soldered it to my light lead. I used a heavy speaker wire.

I just noticed it said 600ma, but the LEDs only draw 180ma if you install 9 of them. The 300ma was at radio shack and was $20 or so.

I wouldn't call them neccessary, but I noticed the polyps (most of them) are staying open 24/7 now and have better color. I really couldn't believe the difference. And the critters aren't afraid of them so you can get a really good look at the nocturnal life in the tank. I also see a lot more stuff floating around the tank after dark. In the daytime my water looks crystal clear. They really illuminate the floaters, hhmmm...skimmer must belong to labor union!!! :hilarious

They have a special on the big fat auction site that cannot be named.
They are not designed specifically for aquariums, but they have a wide beam that makes them more desirable. (as opposed to spotlights)
