Anyone have the newer Odyssea
48" 760W Metal Halide System (Electronic Version) light ?
I know a guy that has four of their pc lights and all has been good .
I know they had problems when first getting into this hobby , but now they are tied with Coralife some how and seems the new versions are better . I would like to up grade to metal halide for at least two of my tanks . But I`m home from work on a back injury and $ isn`t coming in as good . I`d like to buy the Coralife Aqualight Pro light but can`t afford $900 at the moment . Just looking for opinions from people that have actually used the newer lights from Odyssea .

I have the 72 and 24 both from Odssey. My lights are still working and just had a problem on one side not working, but than unplugged the ballast waited couple hours plugged in again and it works fine now, weird stuff....
Seen people changing the ballast and also changing the PC bulbs to T5's. I read that their ballast doesn't run at 250W, but less.

i have the 48" version. I havent had any problems with it yet. I am still running all the stock bulbs and i dont really like them. I think it makes my tank look a little too yellow. Other than that it is a great fixture. It doesnt really overheat my tank either as long as i blow a fan on the water surface.

dont get this crap!!! I got it and first day, bad ballast. Worked great for 3 months and now it doesnt work again because of the ballast. The bulb it comes with is junk. I know it is a great price but if you dont pay for it now you are going to pay for it later. Better off buying it from a LFS rather than online if you are going to get it that way you can talk to a person. I am guessing you found it at a website run buy traders of aqua (read it backwards and take out the "of").

Well , I went through the same thing you did but with a coralife unit that I bought from my LFS and neither I or the LFS could get a response back from them.Luckily my LFS ordered me a new one from his wholesaler . With Aquatraders I have bought water pumps , canister filter , and several U.V. lights and been working good so far . Had the pumps and uv for a year now and just ried the canister for my moms Koi tank .
As I mentioned Odyssea has changed their ways . Every company has problems especially at first . What light of theirs did you have ?

Sure every company has their problems. But coralife at least has a one year warranty. Odyssea/jebo does not have one at all or 30 days at best. Odyssea products are not UL listed and the one I had just last year burned up in 6 months. I took it apart because the lights were barely lighting up, it was running super hot and shocking me when I touched it! When I opened it up, all the wires were burnt through and just about touching each other. If I would not have caught it I would have burned the house down. I do not think that these lights are any better than the years past. Until they stand behind thier products with a warranty and get their product UL tested, I and many others will consider them a safety hazard. Do you want to put your house and family at risk because of a cheap knock off light? Sure you might get a good one but the odds are against you. Also readabout their other products like the canister filters.. They last about a year and the plastic starts to break down and leak. It's up to you but IMO can the idea and get a different light. Trust me you will be glad you did

dawman: i use the mh/pc. like i said. its a good light and havent had any problems. the bulbs are a little yellow, but i would like to replace all of them soon and possibly the ballasts. they are good lights though. especially for the money.

Peckhead you said "the bulbs are a little yellow, but i would like to replace all of them soon and possibly the ballasts." Well thats the meat and potatoes of a light!!
As for the odyessea/jebo lights the new ones that are for sale righ now and in the past are not UL listed. I almost ordered the new MH light fixture against my will and stibborn thinking (trying to give them another shot)for the price, so I called them up and they said they are not UL listed, and only 30 day warranty. I asked why the low warranty and they told me because the parts are so cheap that if I needed to replace any it would not be that much. What does that tell you. As far as the UL it would say it on the ballast or on the inside of the fixture or on the power cord but trust me they are not. My old coralife fiture says it on the cord on a tag. So instead I went with Aquactinics T5 that is UL listed and has a one year warranty on the fixture and a 2 year warranty on the ballast. Now that's standing by your product!!!!!!!!!!

Nicely said , but a warranty is no good if the company [in my case] doesn`t call back about the issue . Also , no company is going to tell a potential buyer they have cheaply made products .

Being as the Odyssea lights are not UL listed I will stay away as I just learned if they catch fire and burn the house down , no insurance company will pay the claim since they are not UL listed . Glad you mentioned about the UL listing .

Dawman,
Yes it was crazy but they told me aqua t that there stuff is cheap and thats why they offer no warranty. I am glad to hear that you made a sound decision
. I promise you will not regret it!!! Have a great day!!

A few hundred dollars in saving is not worth the risk of possibly burning the house down and insurance won`t cover it .

Well , Just bought a 24" Aqualight Pro for one tank and and a 24" lunar aqualight pc for the other . I have two petsmart tanks right next to each other and wanted the same light for both but this will work . Bought the Pro for $250 NIB and lunar for $75 NIB from a guy not too far from me on a forum . Can`t beat the price , also buying a 29 gal. Bio Cube from him for $175 . Not bad for $500 for everything IMO.

Thanks to everyone that responded !
