I'm interested in looking into taking some supplements now that I'm in my 40's not to be confused with weight training stuff but for health and wellness.
I've read a lot of good things about flaxseed oil and collogen but there are some many things out there and everything is supposed to do something. I have no idea what I should be taking and for what.
Is anyone out there educated in what supplements are good to take that will really make a difference in health and wellness area I should be looking at?
Thanks

glucosamine and condroiten for lubrication and mobility of joints
omega 3 and 6 fatty acids (found in fish oils) are excellent for your internal organs (especially your liver) and the health of your skin and hair. these can be bought in capsules now, too - no more swallowing nauseating mouthfulls of cod-liver oil.
also, oddly, the oil extracted from oregano helps boost t-cell production... which is good for your immune system.
other than that, stay away from too much iron..men shouldn't take too many metals.
fruit juices are great too, a lot of fruits are choc full of anti-oxidents, pomegranates especially. Just watch your intake of sugar.

Thanks Mimzy. Do you know anything about flaxseed? It is supposed to be great for the heart and cholesteral. I just don't trust what everyone selling this stuff says about it being "all natural" so it's safe. Snake Venom is all natural also but I'm pretty sure it's not safe.

Flaxseed is probably the best non-animal source of Omega 3s. I'm a vegetarian so I make sure to eat plenty of it. There are some cereals with good amounts of flaxseed in them if you don't want to worry about supplements. I would recommend Uncle Sam because it has tons of flaxseed, but if you're not that into grains you might not like the taste of it too much.

yup! I'm with Chutney. Flaxseed is supposed to be awesome; my boss takes it and reccomends it to our patients as well (I work for a vet).
As for things being "All Natural," definitely keep your dukes up. Just b/c it's all natural, doesn't mean it's good for you. Remember that whole ephedrine fiasco? That was supposed to be "all natural," too - but it was giving people heart attacks.
Just do some research before you put anything into your body. You'll be fine

I do the flaxseed thing. I get it at my grocer in the healthfood section. Make sure it is not the "whole" flaxseed. I put it in cereal, yogurt, soup, oatmeal, grits. Anything semi liquid. No taste really.
