Anyone been to the Hidden Reef in Philadelphia? I'm looking for livestock, particularly corals. Is this pet store worth an hour drive one way? If it helps, the best LFS I've been to is That Fish Place in Lancaster (lots of livestock, but hard to find one healthy enough to take home).

From Ohio? I have a hard time ANY fish store is worth that drive. What are you, 5 hours away? If you are going to be in the area anyway, or even a few hours from it, then yeah, go the extra distance. It's sheer size is amazing. It is the same size as a Home Depot. If you do make it out to That Fish Place, shoot me an email, maybe I can meet you out there. It's always fun to meet fellow reefers. kristopherjhoffman@NOSPAMhotmail.com (remove NOSPAM).

Hey guys, I got back from the Hidden Reef, and I do highly recommend going there. They happen to get their new stock in on Mondays, so I got there on the best day. I think everything I bought from them had been in their tanks for only a few hours. I finally got the large elegance coral I had been looking for, and some bright green zoos, a black spine urchin, and a purple firefish. All look excellent. I did have one incident with the elegance coral. They had three large ones in their store, and I had picked out the largest and prettiest, but had not told an employee to get it for me since I didn't want it to sit in a bag while I looked through the rest of the store. Well, this totally clueless couple ended up getting the coral about 10 seconds before I did. I was SO upset at first, as I've been looking for the perfect elegance for several months and had finally found it in that one. Also, the people who got to it before I did were clearly clueless and simply chose it because it was a pretty color. They also literally RAN to get an employee to choose a sailfin tang when I commented to my buddy on how it was the prettiest one in the store. They clearly didn't want the tang until I said that, but once it appeared I was going to buy it, they HAD to have it before me. Of course, I wasn't looking to buy the tang, just making an observation. So, I was rather upset when this same couple ended up taking my coral (even if I really didn't have any claim to it). Anyway, I'm a bit sad too because it was a beautiful specimen and I'm almost certain it will be dead within the week at the hands of this clearly clueless couple. I ended up picking a slightly smaller elegance that was just as colorful. It is big enough, opening to about 12" by 7". I will try to post pictures of the new corals soon.

Kathy, it is just off of Roosevelt, in north-east Philly. The web site has the address. I can't post a link, but it is a simple web site address. The store is called, the hidden reef. Put them together and you'll find the site.
Yeah, again, I was pretty impressed with the store.
Steve, where is Essington? How far away are you from the store?
The big downside to that store is they have no guarantee on livestock. If you are buying a chromis that isn't a big deal, but if I'm buying a 100$ coral, I want some kind of guarantee.
