I just picked up some at the LFS. Its a calcium/iodine dose that helps with Coraline growth. Wondering if anyone has used this product, or knows about it.

i use it and i got my calcium levels in the proper range in no time...i've heard that it also can raise them too high so be careful. i did see an improvement in coraline growth as well. i would recommend it but be careful of calcium going too high.

I figured I would do it weekly to start off, instead of daily like the instructions say. And eventually bi-weekly. Just a cheap solution till I get my calcium reactor put together and running.

i think it will work out good. i actually dosed every day the recommended amount along with some PH buffer. my levels were perfect in a few days. but if you arent in a hurry to get the levels in range it doesnt matter how much you dose cause the stuff does its job good i think.

Any cheap calcium supplement or normal clam/sps/lps calcium levels of around 400ppm and desirable stable alk does the exact same thing along with time.

i disagree! calcium reactor are far cheaper than purple up if you have 150 gallon or more with high calcium requirement and if you want to do a bailing method go to BRS or get 2 gallons of
b ionic a lot cheaper!

But he doesn't have the reactor up yet. Until he is able to get it up he needs a supplemental solution and purple up is a "cheap" way in the interim. At least that's how I read it.

Um,
$20 for purpleup today or....
$400 for the controller, $100 for the ph probe, $50 for the media, $100 for the canister, $120 for the regulator, $40 for the pump(all I have is the reactor and a circulation pump).
I'm going to have to wait a while before the reactor is up and running/ its on my to do list next pay check. I get payed every quarter in bulk, so I got about 5 weeks to go. I just wanted to start dosing a bit now.
This is just a means of dosing cheaply now. I only have a small patch of GSP that I got today, and some Coraline on my LR that seems to be dying off, so my calcium needs are minimal. I was looking to keep the ship afloat cheaply till I could afford to do it professionally.

I bought two part and I couldn't keep up with my calcium needs --- it took roughly 200mL of Part A a day and my calcium still went down. I bought it by the gallon. Now dosing my limewater drip my calcium has been a constant 400-420ppm and my alk is stable at 10 dKH and my pH is 8.1-8.3 depending on the time of day I test. Oh, one more thing -- it's 2 bucks a pound at the grocery store.

I add roughly a tablespoon per gallon in my topoff water. I have a 5 gallon bucket of topoff water for my main tank that has an Auto Top Off that drips water in all day as needed. The bucket has a maxi-jet powerhead keeping the solution stirred up as it will settle to the bottom of the bucket after a bit of time. The drip goes into my sump and as it occasionally drips in throughout the day (about 1-2 gallons in 24 hours) it keeps a steady alk and pH and keeps my calcium up.
Any further questions ask, it's pretty simple really.

what is your calcium level at?
i dont see why you need to dose anything! regular water changes should do just fine for what is needed. your coraline more then likly isnt dieing off cuz of lac of calcium....

It does sound simple..I was confused because I thought it was a liquid and liquids usually arent sold in pounds that I know of. I would love a picture.
