Dang it.... ever since reading this thread I'm totally paranoid... I keep looking at it every 2 seconds seeing if it is more open or closed...
I was ok with the book summary cause I figured this must be a healthy one... now I'm not sure. It's so big and beautiful... can't stand the thought of it dying.

Mine looked great until about 10 days in then it just took a turn for the worse. It died within the next 4 days

Just found an article by Dr. Fenner. Very good read. I have place mine in my sand bed, moderate lighting, low flow... Hoping for the absolute best.
I've also got a call in to the guy that I got mine from for more details on his setup.

Great to hear... can you give me a quick run down of your specs? What you are dosing? What you are feeding? Lighting, skimming, etc?

We purchased a Elegance - Long Tenacle on Monday and was delived on Tues from another web site. We where advised that we should place it in the middle of the tank with med flow. We where also advised that is wil eat fish food also.
There where 3 sizes to choose from
Small- 49.99 - we purchased this one but if you order 3 corals you get on free (this was free)
Med - 59.99
Large - 99.00
We order a total of 6 corals and got 8

Well that just sucks to find out how hard they are to keep. I used to have 2 in a 90 reef that did great, but as I posted before that was way before MH's, fuges,DSB's and the like. Wfat a shame technology marches forward and Mother Nature takes a step back. Must be her revenge! It's amzing how much I have relearned after about a 12 yr. absence from the hobby.

Mine withered away slowly (3 weeks) and died... no way I'd buy one until the researchers figure out what is going wrong with them. Beautiful animals, awfully painful to watch die.

Doesn't anyone on this forum ever go to reefcentral.com?
There's a whole Elegance Coral project organized by Eric Bornemann... he's trying to figure out what changed in the hobby through actual acientific testing. He's asking for stories, pictures, donations of tissues from dead elegance, etc.
It can't just be that too much light kills them because then no one would be able to keep mushrooms or certain zoas either. It has to be something that was introduced into the systems of hobbyists in th past few years, That's what the ELegance Coral project is attempting to figure out.
It's worth checking out (as is just anout anything Eric touches)
