Alot of books say you can do it; our lfs says they will be okay when they are young but will eventually start fighting. I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck with it. We already have two (in seperate cages) my kids want to get two more but I'll only let them if they can be kept together. I don't need four hamster cages in my house.

I had a pair for 4 years.
They were two males from the same litter.
Handraised and sweet little dwarfies, they were.
If you are going to buy them, buy two from the same cage and ENSURE they are of the same gender.

lol, when we got these two we got two females. Within 2 days one of them had six babies and the other one had 14 babies a few days later.

I have kept about 20 in the same cage :help:
We bought 2 males and with in couple weeks had two sets of babies. I took all of them to my vet and he showed me how to tell if male or female. I put all of them in a 65 gallon tank with a plastic divider in the middle. They all lived happy together.
If you want to know how to tell make vs female. Flip the hamster upside down and squeze the genital area, if IT pops out it is a boy.

I raised dwarf hamsters for a while. They can be very moody critters. They can go together if they are brought up together and the same ---. Dwarf hamsters can reproduce every 6 weeks. The male will breed with the female as soon as she is done giving birth. I had over 100 when I was raising them. I did have times that they would fight. I also had one that would bite the crap out of any hand that was put in his cage. You should try a large aquarium and then use a divider like the other post mentioned if they start fighting. Also make sure they are the same type of dwarf.

We got two females awhile back, within 2 days one had six babies and a week later the other one had 14 babies.

My kids were thrilled; me, not so much.
