it's not a hybrid. it's a valid species, Zebrasoma rostratum. very pretty fish.

If I were going to spend $700 for a fish I would pay Beth or Sep to personally QT it for me.

My LFS has one in their DT.
I would not pay $700 for any fish. I'd rather spend $700 on school of yellow tangs, or some other bright attractive fish.
Not to say these guys aren't cool, but if you feel like waiting around for a year before one's available...

I have a $20 fish.
I cant spend much more than that on anything.
Even when I buy corals I just buy small frags. They'll grow eventually.

They're rare in the hobby only because they're rare in the wild. They only live in some of the waters around the French Polynesian Islands.
Personally, I'd only spend $700 on equipment or coral, lots of coral, but not on one fish. The rarer fish like this one need protection, not an increase in prices.

sandys pet shop in louisville has one in their coral tank but they wont sell it. they also have a real nice purple tang in the coral tank next to it. they keep all of the good fish for themselves lol. i believe they have had these tangs for 10+ years.

Mostly they range in the $500 area, depending on how big they are. Black tangs are rare, purples are not.
