I came home yest to find my firefish lodged in the powerhead in the back of my tank...
his body was to big to get sucked into the area where the water is sucked in
how can a fish get lodged into an area where water is being forced out
anyone ever heard of this???

Not sure exactly what you're saying, but look up Bernoulli's principle. The pressure caused by a moving fluid is inversely proportional to the fluid's velocity. Simply put, the molecules in a fluid moving quickly by a surface (or a fish) have less time to bump against it. When the molecules in the fluid on the other side of your fish (that isn't moving as fast) bump up against the fish more than on the otherside where there's less bumping going on, the effect is a force towards the quickly moving fluid. It's why planes fly, frisbees float, and aneurysms burst.
So yeah, you might not have been looking for that sort of explanation, but it's physically possible for something to get sucked into the outflow given the right angles and what not.
Sorry about your fish. Was it sick? I guess it didn't make it?

haha what a big way to say it's possible.
na the fish was healthy but now it's dead
just not something you see everyday

Sorry for your loss.
To answer the question, yeah i've heard of it, lost a pretty little citron goby that way. Looked like she got sucked in and it broke her little fish spine, very sad.

Kinda agree with itom...not enough info to go on here from what you posted, but if you are saying he was stuck to the "out going" side of the pwr head, then the only explanation is that there was more than enough "suction" coming from the "incoming" side nearby. At least enough to hold him in place. But doubtful that a healthy fish couldn't have overcome this, so probably sick to begin with.

Did it get stuck in the return or in the intake? I had a fish get stuck in the intake of my powerhead before, which would make sense (the bottom of the powerhead). I have since covered the intakes with sponges to keep this from happening again.

If the intake was covered with a protective screen like a maxi jet per se, then any healthy fish could get away from the suction.

ok my tank is a jbj lighting nano cube.... the back compartment is split into 3 vertical compartments. The last compartment is the return pump. The water flows into the submerged pump up the tube and into the directional flow part and into the back of the tank. so somehow the fish got lodged into the directional flow piece so the part that is shooting water out had half of the fish's body hanging out if it
at first i thought he jumped in the back of the tank by accident but i felt the water intake part of the pump and there is a shield to prevent anything getting sucked into it
so im guessing somehow the fish jumped and got lodged into the outflow peice.
and yes the fish was healthy... i dont see how getting lodged in an outflow piece would make him sick? i could see if it was an intake piece
