Hi, yellow tail no my ponds aren't saltwater, their freshwater. I keep koi in them which is a ornamental carp species. Sorry I'm no internet guru, so I don't know how to send a diagram, and sounds like a little too much work. Email
www.moorehaven.com and they got me all hooked up for my pond. They are the best on the net for info. I did a little different for filtration than they said, but I will be doing an undergravel in the future. Basically if you want to keep koi, and want them to grow huge like a couple feet long you need 3 feet deep or more. Then you need to determine how many fish you want. I have a 1800 gal. pond, and that's plenty big, and with that size you don't have to get insane pump size. Then you need to determine a place in your yard where you want it. Preferably in the shade to limit algae, and then you mark the outline, and get a 15 mil. or more liner at a local pond place or stone place. Make sure you measure right, and get more than you need, and just trim off the exess after your done. Then you dig it 4 feet deep, because you'll need 1 foot for the piping and the washed pea gravel for the undergravel filtration. That will leave you 3 feet of depth for your koi to get big and fat. Then you email moorehaven and ask them to send you a diagram for your undergravel piping and size of pump you need with or without a waterfall should you decide and with your specific pond specs. They will tell you how to do it yourself, and very cheap. Most people have a waterfall as they are great for added oxegen, as that is a problem in algae infested ponds. Then you need to decide what you want for finishing the edges. You need to Determine if you want river rock, wood decking, raised brick edging, or slate tile like me, (very formal) or chunks of slate or sandstone. Then you get a fish safe morter, so when the morter leaches into the pond you don't kill all the fish. That is the typical larger pond. Now you need to decide what size, location, and style and fish you want to do. Just like saltwater the more info I get from you the better I can help you. But really just email them and they can help you, or just reasurch it like I did. Good luck to you, and ponds are great! Remember I'm pondgirl on
