Anyone in Alaska?

I've seen 2 or 3 members say they used to live here or vacationed here. Does anyone else actually currently live in Alaska? Anchorage, Palmer or Wasilla?
I know Lexi is still in AK but don't see her on here much.

Actually it fluxes every once in a while. Last week (heater unplugged) it went from 79 to 82. I opened the top and a window, got back down to 79, closed window and top last night...now it's at 76.

Portage Glacier....A must see, the visitors center is amazing.... Is the "Bird House" still open? A funky little bar on the way to portage that had a some strange traditions, plus the bar was sinking on one end so you had to keep a good grasp on your beer or it would slide away. Denali is an incredible climb. Flat top mountain is another one. If the salmon are running check out the kanik (sp) river fish watching platforms and ladders. The glass top train ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks is raw natural beauty at it's finest. Os much to do up there...I spent many years and could spend a couple more..

I'M HERE!!! Just moved to Anchorage in January, and recently got my 60g SW and 40g FW up and running. Not too much here by the way of LFS, though. Kind of sucks.

Depends on what you want to do. Snowboarding, probly late November...it's not too could yet and it has been dumping snow early November since I've been here.
Fishing, for salmon, summer time. Strict fishing regs and non-resident EXPENSIVE
Sightseeing/hiking/camping...summer (late May-mid Sept). It starts snowing again in late October. There are basically 2 seasons, winter and summer. Winter is dark most of the day (daylight -0930-1700) Summer daylight, extreme 0330-2330.
As Maxalmon says, there is plenty to do here all year round. I would like to go on that train ride. The Knik river produces some huge salmon. I've been to some glaciers but not Portage yet. Glaciers are awesome. Last year I picked wild blueberries off the side of a mountain...it was pretty steep.
There are some pretty nice microbreweries here in Anchorage. Great pizza and Amber beers at The Moose's Tooth restaraunt. Also a great place for calamari and other fine foods and beer is The Glacier Brewhouse in downtown Anchorage.
Have a good trip.

Hey, there is life up here! :jumping: What brings you to Alaska? Did you say kind of sucks? Don't be modest, it's terrible! There was another store on Old Seward but closed down around the time you got here.

Is that a NO on staying at your house? Just kidding, thanks for the info from both you and maxalmon. And I think we want the camping / hiking, etc. so I better get a move on. Kinda scared to check air rates with these gas prices.

It really depends on what you want to do. There are excellent places to hike and camp all over the entire state of Alaska. Get yourself a Milepost magazine (- $20) it's more of a roadmap of Alaska and driving through Canada to Alaska but it has tons of info and can hint of places to go and things to see all over Alaska.
Anchorage is probably the largest city in Alaska, if you want to stay away from city life while you're here maybe you should seek elsewhere. Anchorage probably has the largest airport too though so flying in should be cheaper than say going into Seward or the Kodiak Islands.
You can stay here and housesit for me while we go to Hawaii next year!

Got a job promotion to come up here, so here I am. I visited that store The Reef right before it closed, but didn't have any of my stuff up here yet. Sounds like they are moving to the Sears mall, but not sure when they will open back up. We need another store here BAD!!
