We are right smack in the middle of the state!! Your perspecitive is skewed from away up north there.
No one ever heard of us, but Pittsylvania County is the largest county in the state with only around 60,000 residents. We are in the country.
Looks like we are the only Virginia people who use this site-so sad

I looked Chatham up it looks like a great place to live. One day I would like to sell and move to a town like that. Taxes are so HIGH up here.

Better buy your land now and move quickly!! Folks from up north have discovered us and prices are beginning to rise. Our quiet little lake has been bought out buy a developer and now they are selling lake front lots for around 50,000. A year ago, you could buy 50 acres with that!
The property taxes are only 55 cents on the 100 which is pretty darn good! Only drawback is you have to drive a ways to town-we are 27 miles from the closest Lowes, Wal-mart and Mall, but it makes a day trip for us when we have nothing else to do on the farm :hilarious

93 cents isnt bad. My son lives in Deep Creek and their property taxes are $1.55 on the 100 but who can afford a house there anyway?
You can still purchase a 3 bedroom brick house with basement here for around 100,000 and it will have a nice chunk of land with it.
Land alone runs around $2,00 and acre for large tracts of 100 acres or more and 5 acre building lots can be purchased for around 15-20,000.
There are quite a few new homes going up, but even more double wides.
this is a nice laid back area. you would like it. My husband is a teacher and I am the director of the county pre-k program. We have terrific schools, but kind of long bus rides.
