Anyone interested in hang-on sand bed filter?

I have a Rainbow fluidized sand bed filter that I have not used in over a year. I had it on a 29G tank and have not used it in a year and a half. It works perfectly fine but I upgraded to 75G w/fuge and no longer need it. I paid $100 for it. The thing is, is that when I took it off I didn't know what to do about the sand with the living organisms living in it so I just left it. The sand may just need to be rinsed and then put back in. If interested email me and make offer. bjbundy@mybluelight.com

Is it that worthless??? One of the many things that I bought from a lfs that I probably did not need on my tank.

Does it hang on the back of the tank? Does it need a powerhead for it to work? If so how many gph? How much do you want for it?

Instead of selling it for next to nothing, as zanemoseley said, it can be used for Rowaphos or Phosban, (just be sure to use a VERY slow flow rate, or you will turn the tank orange. Been there!) or you can use it for carbon if you rinse the carbon well first. Sand filters are not too great for salt tanks, the fluidized bed reactors are pretty good for chimical media if you run them with a low flow powerhead. I use a Mini-jet 404 to power one of mine...

It is the kind that hangs onto the back of tank. I may just keep it and put my carbon in that instead. I never thought of that. I paid $100 for it and instead of a heavy loss of $$ I think I will keep it. Thanks for the suggestion.

IF you do this, remember to use a very low flow powerhead, or you WILL have a bad mess in your tank...

I have a powerhead that I am not using that looks pretty small. It is black with blue writing on it saying POWERHEAD 3C1. Other than that I see no other info on what kind of power it is. :help:
