Weeell Beth, I was kinda hoping to find a calculator, table, formulae or something so I could figure out how much baking soda to add. Finally I just decided to wing it and added 1 Tbs. baking soda to 6 gals of my dilution water which as luck would have it, raised the PH in my thirty gallon isolation tank from 7.8 to 8.2. Bam! Right where I wanted it! :cheer:

I have Seachem test kits. I also take samples into work where I have a very expensive PH meter. So far the seachem tests match the meter exactly. My alk is at 4.5 or perhaps 5 meq/L right now. Not too shabby!
Doesn't baking soda act as a buffer? PH has remained constant over last two days, but I guess that's to be expected since I haven't changed anything (except for adding Prime and makeup water) over the last two days since my SG reached 1.09.
Why did I add Prime? You may ask. Well I've had a small ammonia spike in my QT (.01), and its the only thing I could think to do as I've already added bacteria laden rock and a foam filter from my DT. Question is... How long does the Prime remain effective before I have to redose or change water? :notsure:
Oh yeah, thanks guys for your help and guidance.
