Anyone Luck With Plants In Reef Tank?

Hi - just seeing if anyone has tried plants in a reef tank. We ordered some shaving brush plants - but they seem to look like they are getting "burnt" up by the lighting. One looks good but not sure if plants are a good idea or not. We were thinking of getting some stuff on a rock that tangs like to eat but not sure ...
any ideas or thoughts??

Gonna be awfully hard to keep sufficient veg matter growoing on any live rock in a tank that has tangs. Best bet is grow calurpea in a fuge or separate tank and harvest it from there and feed to tangs in display tank. Not familiar with shaving brush plants, but I think they are just like any other macro algae plant, do not require really bright lights, and do perfectly well with typical PC lights. Perhaps try placing them in a corner of the tankw ith a little less light or make a sort of shade or light diffuser that diffuses light that enters directly on the plants and see if that makes a difference.

I tried the Shaving brushes on here with no luck. They are nice but my hermits must have really liked them. I came home everyday to one or two laying flat and hermits eating it. So I let them and didn't buy anymore. I am setting up a refuge with my new 90 gallon next week just to have plants. Mainly for pods and feeding tangs.

I am not sure what I am going to put in the refuge yet. Suggestions are welcome. I have a Hippo Tang and plan to add another so anything that they like to eat and grows fast is a plus.

Thanks
I just bought a yellow tang to help with the greenery, but so far the little lawnmower hasn't been able to keep up.

I have shaving brush down in my sump in the sand and they do well, if I put them in the DT they get destroyed pretty bad most of the time. I put a piece of PVC pipe in the bottom of the sump so I could have a small sand bed for the plants.

My tank once looked like yours!! Every kind of caulerpa you could imagine, and some red stuff too weird. If you would like to see a pic I can add one later if I still have them around. My hippo tang finally took care of the last bit of it!

I have halomedia if I spelled that right, it is also called the money plant. It grows great in my reef and the fish leave it alone.
