anyone making or has made live rock

if anyone has or is making live rock do you use r/o water or just regular tap water. I have r/o water in mine and its been since Jan. Now thats its starting to get warmer i was thinking on taking the tubs outside and emptying them and scrubing the buckets and filling back up with fresh water from the hose so I can keep doing that more often what do you guys think

Not sure what you mean by making live rock. You can't manufacture or produce it, so to speak, but you can place base rock in an established tank (w/LR) and it will be colonized by the good bacteria and then become functionally like LR.

sorry I guess I should have said that differently. I meant DIY rock with the cement and crushed oyster shell. its been curing in tubs since jan, and i have been changing out the water but I was thinking taking it outside then I could just use the hose and do it more often

Have any pics? Ive seen some really cool DIY rock, someday i might give it a shot.
Correct me if i'm wrong ,but is the curing process for PH stability reasons?IDK
just curious.

There is a guy in our reef club that creates aquacultured rock. We bought 90lb from him a few weeks ago. It was already seeded and he also has a bunch that has nice coraline growth on them.

try to change the water as often as you can. its not going to hurt for you to clean out the tubs or anything, so i would do it if you had the time. when i made mine it didnt take too long before it went in the tank
my friend made some rocks too but his has been sitting in a bucket of tap water for a few months and the pH has never lowered--- not sure if its because he has too many rocks or what

What J did, he had the rock cure for 4 months and then put them in 100g Rubbermaid tubs with some seed rock, pump, heater and light to get the new rock seeded. Nice stuff! One of our members drilled the rock and so far results have been good.
