Anyone own an Urchin?

I know how to care for them and all that, but what I can't get a definite answer on is whether or not they're venomous.
I have a MultiColored/Rainbow Pincushion. The LFS guy was petrified to touch it, but I've seen people touch them as well, are they just nuts?

No they are not. I can't say that of ALL urchins, but the ones commonly found in the hobby are not venomous.

Never heard that either. I have had pin cushion and pencil. Have picked up both. Gently nudge until it lets go of surface and hold gently. Never been stuck!

It seems most of the urchins have some type of vemon to them. However there is really only one type of great concern, Toxopneustes pileolus which is not seem in the hobby. Most of the vemons have little to effect on humans. On top if that, not only in most cases do you have to get poked, the spine has to break off in your flesh. You are completely safe handling one, the urchins can not spike or stick you. You have to hit the urchin, with enough force to break your skin.
Again, most of even those times it's harmless. Snorkeling, I kicked a long-spine with my foot. Other then the pain of being poked, there was no side effects.

Thanks for all the replies. I was pretty sure that I could touch my pincushion, but then the LFS guy looked at me like I was nuts when I finally went to pick it up last night.
I bought the rainbow/multicolored pincushion. Been researching this little guys for months now and finally decided that I have enough algae in the tank for him.

He knew he screwed up too. So by the end of the weekend hopefully we'll have pics of it in the tank thread along with our new corals and goby. He already knows that he may have to go digging to find it and take a pic.
