I'm looking to purchase some De-Nitrate made by Seachem for my 250gal Reef. I'm wondering if anyone has used it on their reef and if so did it kill your coral?

I am not trying to be rude but, If you have a nitrate issue you should look at what is causing it. How is your bio load? any sloppy eaters?
I have no experience with that product. Sorry.

My nitrate issue is coming from my tank being a touch over stocked and not enough bio-load. What ways are best to add more bio-load?

What do you have for filtration, skimmer, macro algae, live rock, water change schedule? Those can be a good place to look at for starting looking at lowering nitrates.

I have a skimmer rated for 300gals. I have a 30 gal tank with just macro algae in it. I have about 200 pounds of live rock total. I do 20% water changes ever two weeks. My nitrates are a 20ppm nothing is being hurt by this i'm just tired of the nitrates and would like to fix it if possible.

If nothing is being hurt by the trates... then sounds like you may be trying to fix something that's not broken -- which may give you more problems than you bargained for.
Strange your trates are still that high -- how big of a load do you have/

oh yeah! ive used it and it will lower you nitrates at the most 10ppm. i dont like it, in my 55g i had a 160+ppm nitrate issue and this stuff is useless in that case. if you have like5ppm in you take i would advise using it. i found the source of my problem which was infrequent water changes(now my nitrates are gone).

Well I have 3 yellow tangs, 1 powder brown, 1 salfin, 1 copperbanded butterfly, 5 different kinds of damsels, 1 mandrin goby, 1 percula clown, 1 dragon goby and thats it. I feed 2-3 times a day small to medium amounts of food.
I found this stuff called Matrix by Seachem to add more biofiltration I think i'll try some of this. I don't really have much for bio-filtrations besides my rocks and sand.
I do have a lot of detrites in my overflows and sump and I only have 5 cerith snails left. Do to my stupid hermit crabs eating them so maybe this detrites could be adding problems, think so?

Uhhh, if you seriously have all those fish in a 30gal, I think we found your problem....
Though I doubt it cause 200# of LR doesn't fit into a 30gal too well

I would say you're overfeeding them.
My main tank 90g reef with a 4" yellow tang, 5" yellow belly blue hippo tang, damsel, clown, chromis, 6-line, tons of inverts get ONLY one cube of brine or mysis or algae sheet a day for 2 days... then a day off and they are all fat and happy. Occasionally I drop is some shrimp pellets for my clean up crew and starfish and shrimp but no more than once a week.
I run a sump full of chaeto and a skimmer that was running half the time for awhile and I always had 0 trates.

you are definitly over feeding, once every other day is more than enough, and use algea sheets daily for the tangs. 2" by 2" on the sheets

Wow I never knew you could get away with such little amounts of food I guess I will try feeding less and see what results come of this. Thanks for all the help.

All mine are fine. I had a problem with my 90 gallon when i first started out. I was feeding them to much and they stopped grazing on algea in the tank and they pooped like crazy cause i was feeding them frozen food. so then i started having problems with algea. So I stopped feeding them so much and everything went back to normal.

WOW and they are all doing well from that much food?
Some of it has to do with different types of fish. If I don't give my Naso at least an algae sheet and some frozen a day, he's not as robust as I'd like. The guy in my avatar gets 2 whole shrimp, a scallop, and 2 silversides a day to maintain body weight. Meanwhile, my mandarin in my reef, I don't think I've fed it in the 3 years I've had it.
The sad truth is people usually stuff way too many fish in their tanks, and they can only feed so much. If you keep the stocking responsible, you can feed the fish healthily, keep the fish fat and happy, and keep the levels good too.

It is a 265 gallon tank with a 75 gallon fuge. I did have a pink tail trigger in there but i did just remove him and took him back to the store.
