anyone useing a chiller...?

Ok everyone we are looking into a chiller for our reef, now that the weather is getting warmer and, the new vho's are makeing the water temp higher than the pc's did last summer we are looking into a chiller. The question is this, do you prefer the probe type or the inline models. Just would like some opinons on them, thanks....fixit :) :)

I use a probe chiller. I have had my shares of leaks in the past, and the probe type is definitely not gonna leak and get water all over the living room. They say that in-lines are more efficient though.

Thanks guys, this room is all carpet and I did worry about the extra chance of a leak, but we have 4 setups in our family room and whats one more potential hazard. I like the idea of not haveing to have it right next to the tank tho. with all the watts from our tanks alone we are running 1920 watts and this room gets warm. keep the opinions comeing, and thanks again...fixit :)

First and current chiller for me is a Teclima CA600 (or is it 680)? Works like a charm on my 92 gal tank. Only gripe I have, cannot adjust to tenths of a degree (no big) and there is a 2 degree "window" before chiller kicks in. SO if temp is set at 78, chiller kicks on at 80. I DO like the integrated heater, so no separate controller required.

Thanks all, I placed my order today and they will be here friday. I got a 1/5 horse aqua-logic in line for the reef and a 1/4 horse aqua-logic probe for the 200 gallon. since we do a lot of business with this guy he through in a controller for each unit[cool] saved me a couple hundred bucks.cya...fixit :)

They will be here tomorrow, not soon enough though I think, we may loose a couple of our show coral. :( They are all droopy and have never looked so bad! I hope the chiller helps...Lisa
P.S Thanks to everyone for your input.

Hi bklynz00, I'm not real comfortable with the link thing on here yet. Still not sure what is allowed and whats not. If you want to give me your e-mail I will e-mail you a link to the site where we bought ours from. We got 2 - 1/5 horse in line and one 1/4 horse probe, write now the site we bought ours from is giving you 100.00 off or throwing in a free controler. They are a very good on-line store, we shop with them all the time. Lisa

heard you could use a dorm fridge, but I ghuess that would be noticable next to the tank; adding cooling fans to your lighting system can help lower the temp a little too
