i have a mexican dragon eel (approx. 15") in my 75 by himself since i got him...up untill yesturday i have ony fed him frozen foods. but yesturday i decided to try a live feeder and see what happened...i thought that do to his poor eye sight the fish might be able to stay away from it for a minute or two...well i was really wrong. he zero'd right in and swollowed to large feeders very quickly (i assume do to the movement they made)...
now i worry that when i add a lion in the next couple weeks he will go after it. i know that the lion would be to big for it but i'm worried that he would badly injure the lion or that he might get poked by the lions poisonous spines...
is this a valid concern???
TIA,
mike

For the most part lionfish are passive stingers to tankmates. I have had many lionfish together in tanks with sharks and trevallys, and remoras. At one point I had two red volitans with a 42" remora and every feeding time the remora would beat the life out of the lionfish with its tail and strong body. Never once did the lionfish cause any harm to the remora. He would just wait out his time to eat his own food. As for the dragon eel eating the lionfish... buy a big lionfish :D

I don't think you have anything to worry about, I think the eel will figure out that the lion is not something he wants to try to eat, but you could feed the eel really well just before you add the lion this would help, I have tried this trick and it has worked well. Good Luck

hawaiian are very aggressive. they have very good vision. if the dragon does try to bite the lion it will learn a painfull lesson. feed the eel and make sure it doesnt try to bite at the floating bag. dragons become very aggressive as they get bigger.
