Anyone with built in overflows?

In my 125 all-glass reef tank I have two built in overflows. Tonight I noticed that inside these overflows there is a ton of hair algae growing up towards the top. I tried cleaning out but there isn't any way to really get at it. I don't understand why it is growing there and not in my tank or refugium. Any ideas why and how to get rid of it? Thanks

Mine too. It's a pod breading ground! I take it out when it gets really thick and feed it to my tang and angel and LMB they love it. Plus the pods go in the main tank for food and replenishment. Don't worry about it too much unless it get out of control.

It grows there because of the passing nutrient level and high flow .Keep water quality high, and be careful how much you feed.Growing xenia in your refugium may help as well...it can uptake much more nutrients than macro.
