I've never purchased a cleaner clam before will soon get 2 with a recent reef cleaner pack order to repenish my clean up crew. Anything special I need to know about this invert?

Not really....Once you put it in the tank it should bury itself in the sand and you may never see it again....LOL
If something happens to it and it dies, somehow the shell does manage to come up out of the sand though

Mine burried, didn't see again for awhile, fish dug it up and hermits went to the buffet.

I got lots of filter feeder clams attached to my LR when I bought it. I tried to remove some from their homes for new placement and some made the transition ok. What really startled me is that I bought a round rock for some rubble in the sump and while looking at it at night, i noticed it was a clam so I moved it to the DT and placed it in the sand. Its been fine ever since. Pretty easy no maintenance critter for the tank.

Cleaner clams are also called littleneck clams, cherrystone clams, etc, and might be available at your grocery store for the staggering price of 32 cents... Littlenecks are a more temperate water species then we typically keep our aquariums at, so longetivity is a concern. I buy littlenecks all the time as food for my fish, and store them in my 90gal reef. My opinion is that the low survival numbers are due 50/50 to the water temp issue, and the transportation/display issues. These guys are usually just kept on ice. Out of 3 dozen or so clams only a handful live more then a few months.

Thanks for the responses! So, I can find these clams in the grocery store too. I'll look for them there too. I hope they help control nitrates because I totally failed growing with the mangrove.
