Im looking for info on having a display tank on one floor and having all equipment in my basement. What kind of pumps would I need, what are the pros and cons? Please help.

I don't have my sump in the basement, but I do have my chiller down there, so my water circulates constantly from the tank to sump (below tank) down to chiller (basement) and back upstairs to tank.....No problems.
I also make my water in the same equipment room in the basement. The water is stored in two bins (fresh & salt). I have switches upstairs at the tank which activates the pumps in whatever water I want to send up. Very easy.
As far as what pumps you need, always look at vertical head pressure. Measure the distance you will have to go vertically (horizontally makes no difference, even if going the length of the house) and figure in a little extra. The vertical limits of pumps are usually printed on the outside of the box.

Wow, thats impressive. Im thinking of having the sump and a refuge downstairs. I wanna buy a 125 gallon, I already have a 55 sitting around and also I have the sump that comes with this package I am looking at, 30 gallon. I could do that right, have refuge and sump downstairs and display up? Would be a cool project.

Definately will work...

Make sure you start a build thread when you get started. I would enjoy seeing everything. Although my sump is tucked away (out of sight), sometimes I wished that I would have put that piece down in the basement too, with the rest of the equipment. It's not overly loud, but I do hear water flow noises up here constantly.

Helped to tear down a system like this. water dropped from above into a large tuperware container full of LR with an eggcrated supported blue pad filter. From there it dropped into a storage container of water (DT was a 65, storage container was a 30 gallon plastic drum. From storage container #1 one, it went into storage container #2, another 30 gallon drum. From storage container #2 it went into a small sump (probably 20 gallons) was skimmed, and an external Reef Dart pump pumped it back to the main floor. Pretty sweat set-up and obviously expanded his water capacity significantly. Down side, lots of salt creep, noisy pumps, and system has to be set-up correctly on when it shuts down everything drains into the 20 gallon sump and you got a major mess.
