Aptasia removal

I recently found out that those ugly creatures that have spread throughout my tank are aptasia, and I have read on this forum how to remove them.... So my plan was to treat them with a needle and chemicals, and some peppermint shrimp........ but no, I got home last night and my husband had picked every one off the rocks with tweezers, plyers, whatever he could find! So here is my question... what should I expect now, will all these now multiply since he just ripped them off the rocks? Is there anything I can do at this point to prevent them from spreading again? Water treatments? Also.... If peppermint shrimp are recommended, will my 7" snowflake eel eat them for dinner? Thanks, Becky

Ripping them from the rock is not a good thing, they will usually just reattach themselves to a new rock. You will have to rely on the services of the peppermint, or you could do the injection.

Well, thank you all so far... I will let you know how the tank looks after this weekend! I haven't heard that only certain species of peppermint shrimp will eat the aptasia... does anyone know the exact name so that I can look for a couple? Thanks again

I have a 55 gallon with a snowflake in there. He started at about 7", but now is about 20" and fat as a little submarine. BUT, I also have four cleaner shrimp, and one peppermint shrimp (I too had the dreaded apastia sp?).
My eel has never bothered my shrimp, or anything else for that matter. He opens his mouth up for the cleaners and they go in and clean him. They jump all over him and annoy him, and he doesn't even give them a second look.
Again, I am sure that in some cases this would be a bad idea, but I keep the eel well fed, and he leaves everything else alone...so it can be done, just be careful...and provide lots of little hiding spost for the shrimp.
Good Luck.
