Could some one please tell me what this red stuff on the rock is like ? It has a red stem, then small thin grey like line's growing out of it.

im not a 100% sure but i think it is a form of macro algae that is red. its definetly not aptasia, or a anemone. dont quote me though on the alae. i had it in my tank also.

It is not aptasia or a feather duster. From what i can see from the pic it is probably either a red macroalgae or a sponge. With a closer shot it could probably be identified. If those three central stalks have tubular openings in them, it is probably a sponge. If it is plantlike (for lack of a better term) it is probably a macroalgae. Whatever it is, leave it alone, as it is not detrimental. Just one of the reasons live rock is so great.

Thank's :)
From your description/explanation, it seem's to be a sponge. I could take it out and take a better shot if needed. :)

Don't take it out!!! Sponges do not fair well after being exposed to air. If they survive the shipment on liverock and setlle into your tank leave them alone. As I said whatever it is it is harmless and will probably continue growing. Good luck and enjoy... sponges are neat ;)

I have the same thing isnt it GREAT!!. I think it looks neat. I found a really neat slide show that shows alot of the macro algae. I found it in the search, on this forum. Just type in algae slide show, under search, I think you will find the same thing there.
