i just got my Aqua C remora (courtesy of Windlasher
) and i have a few questions about it.
-can i use my aquaclear 50 powerhead (270 gph) on it instead of buying a maxijet 1200 (295)?
-what is the purpose of the O ring? mine is broke so could i just use a rubber band(s)?
-could i throw some filter media in the skimmer (return part)? if so what would be best to put in out of...chemi pure, purigen, sponge, or biomax that i have?
thanks. im sure i will have more questions once i get it hooked up and running.

I would think that you can use the aquaclear since it's close to the same gph. Just as long as the outlet is the same size and will match up with the skimmer.
The purpose of the o-ring is to be able to adjust the height of the skimmer cup. The lower the cup the wetter the skimate will be, the higher the drier it will be. You could use rubber bands, you just need something to hold the cup up.
I'm not sure about the filter media. One problem that could come with that is if you restrict or block the return then you are setting yourself up for a really bad flood.

cool thanks for your help.
i think i'll just stick the media in my sumps baffles and get a few strong rubberbands to hold the cup.
the skimmer itself had a couple pieces brake off while shipping or it came that way, but since it was a gift from windlasher it dosent matter

i think i will silicon the pieces that chipped of the actual body that may come in contact with the water and super glue the pieces that chipped off the collection cup since it wont make contact with anything but the dirty bubbles. sound ok?

so i hooked the skimmer up to a bucket of water to see how it works...its not producing any bubbles, just a stream of water

Did the post office beat the crap out of it? I drilled the drain in the cup before they had a mod available, but that was working fine. The Oring, must have broken durring shipping, but it had been sitting on a shelf for a while so maybe it dried out.

i few pieces were chipped and rubber bands work fine. the pieces chipped off didnt have any effect on performance.
i finally realized why i thought it wasnt working, its cause it wasnt level and it was tested on fresh saltwater that was in my new sump (that isnt connected to the main system yet) but once i hooked it up to my DT it works great.
