Aquapod 24 Running Hot...

Just got my aquapod setup and running here a few weeks ago. Been cold for the past few weeks up till mid-week/this weekend when I started having overheating problems with my water.
Temps were pretty stable up till now staying between 78/80*. Today they rose to 84*..... Outside temps got up to 80* today and we usually don't run the A/C in the house untill it gets a good bit warmer than that (we open the windows and turn on the attic fan and it keeps the house fairly cool (75/78*).
I did unplug the heater to make sure that's not the problem, but the temps still rose in the tank, to about 81* now but the daylight bulb has only been on for 4 hours now.
I have already changed my bulbs so that the fans come on with the atinic lights, so they are already running when the daylight bulb comes on. I have also swapped the stock pump for a MJ-1200 and have a koralia nano on the timer to come on with the daylights.
What else can I try? I ordered the silentX fans but they don't even blow as much air as the stock fans. Im not really worried about sound of the fans so much as keeping my tank stable so does anyone recommend a more powerful fan than stock?
I would like to avoid the costs of a chiller if at all possible (this is my first saltwater tank), and im not really sure how it works and I don't want to have to drill holes in the tank since its already setup..... Its not really a viable option I dont think....
Would swapping to the HQI sunpod help since that would get the hood off of the water? I would rather invest the $300+ into the sunpod than into a chiller, but not if its unlikely to solve my problems.
I have thought about cutting the intake vents from the inside to allow the fans to pull more cool air through and also thought about taking out every other ridge for the exhaust fans to remove some flow restrictions.
Anyone have any tips/ideas so that I can avoid having problems with the temperatures.
Thanks,
Josh

Sunpod won't help, if anything it will cause more heat. My bet would be the house temperature is the culprit.

sunpod helped me. With my stock hood temps got up to 86 in my warm room. I switched to the sunpod and opened a window and never went above 82 even with the window closed. I live in a cool climate though so that helped me.

hello josh,
one thing about the sunpod is it will create heat. like stated above me. but since its gonna be a hoodless tank with these lights the cool air of the house could cool it more. theres fans out there that can cool it down way better. have the temp at 80 isnt bad. i have metal halides 175w and all my corals in my 29g are fine with the temp from 76-80. heres one fan i know about

Well I am aiming more for a temperature of 78-80. I can open a window while we still don't have the A/C on but thats an option I would like to eliminate....
anyone have a chiller they can recommend? I have looked at a few pretty close and I am waiting on reply's from the manufacturers.
What would you recommend from the following....
AquaEuro CL-150 Link - (Would this be underpowered)
AquaEuro 1/13 HP (Same link as above)
JBJ Nano Artica Link - (Are these still availible?)
Either way, like I said in my original post drilling the tank is not feasible. I am looking at getting the JBJ installation kit no matter what Chiller I get...
what pump should I put in to run through the Chiller when I get it? I don't mind adding another pump as I don't want to loose flow out of my main pump since it would have more head pressure traveling through the chiller, and may not run all the time.
Thanks,
Josh

Ill admit I am new to this, as this is my first saltwater tank.....actually its my girlfriends I'm just financing it LOL.
I had read that temperature fluctuations of more than 2 degrees in a day were really bad for the fish/corals...
I have ordered some high cfm stock sized fans and will be swapping them out later this week. I modded the intake holes on the hood to actually allow air in and I think that helped some. I'm trying to do whatever I can to keep temps down to as close to ambient temps during the spring and then Ill know I'm ok the rest of the year when we have the A/C on.....
I just hate to spend the money on the HQI and either worsen my problem or not solve it and have to end up dropping another $300 on it to get a chiller still.... I think I would rather just get the chiller now and not have to worry about the temps from here on out no matter what.

to help you out man. dont buy a chiller. you already modded holes to let air pass. you can save that money to either A. buy the fans i should you and put them in the back. or B. buy the MH (not telling you to do it) but it brings out lots of color in corals and fish and that can help lots with the temp. so i stated open hood. there lots of places you can get checp HQI lights. and the fans as well. no matter what you pick best thing to do before you waste $300+ on a chiller buy a $25 fan that does the same thing.

you could also use that money to buy more corals, LR, fish etc...
think about it man. dont waste money on a chiller when fans do the same thing. your gonna buy a chiller to lower the temp 5 degrees. and the fans i should you do the same thing. just trying to save you money.
they told me i may need a chiller since i got MH. but since its an open hood and my fan is always on im good
saved the 300 bucks to buy corals! and my HOB fuge.

Thanks,
Im really wanting to keep from spending $300 on something that doesn't really "ADD" to the tank. I know the MH would really add to the tank in multiple ways, im just afraid of spending the $350 on the sunpod and then it not helping my problems.
What are the ambiant temps in the room that your tank is in? I have a ceiling fan that runs on high through the whole springtime when the A/C is not on.

In my experience the number one factor for tank temperature fluctuations is room temperature. Keep the room temp low 70's or lower and you are in control. The silenx fans work fine for me. They actually push more air (cubic feet per minute) than the stock fans but have lower RPMS. Here are some other suggestions.
-open the feeder lid to let some heat out
-have a hang on fan blow across the top of the water
-have one of the return nozzles point to the water to break the surface, this will help with evaporation and cooling of the tank
-cut open the vents in the stock hood, easy way to do this is take a pair of pliers and twist off the caps to the vents. I didnt take off every cap, only like 4 or so off each vent.
-run your lights only at night when its cooler
-have both fans blow in
-keep tank away from any windows or vents, keep out of any sunlight
you did well with replacing the stock pump and swapping the bulbs. hope that helps.

I think im going to try to build a 10 gallon sump to go in the bottom of my stand and put some fans on that and see if that helps.
