aquarium backgrounds

Hi, I would like to know which color you find to be the best for the background of your aquariums?
I have a black background right now. It is not painted but that background you buy. I find it makes my tank look alot more duller (the lighting). When i remove it from the back WOW it is really bright again. So i was wondering if a nice ocean blue would give me the same affect, nice and bright?

In part it depends on your lighting. I personally like the deep ocean blue of mine. Do a search on Oceanvisions backgrounds on this board and do a google search on it.

I painted mine a flat black...it gives the illussion of depth and doesn't seem to "dull" the lighting at all...granted ...blue backgrounds do seem a bit "brighter"...but in my opinion either will work better than nothing.

I love the blue background. I have both black and blue and reef background. I like the blue the best just gives off a bright look to it.

Thomas have you used one of these Oceanvisions backgrounds ? I think I have one and they said they are self adhesive. How do you do that? Do you just add water or what?

Neowind:
I got one from Oceanic people (deep blue) and it is AWSOME! simple to use and have never had a background look so natural. Gives it a 3D type of look almost. Just put some soapy water on the sticky part and then when set on your tank just "squegee" the soapy water out with a credit card or putty knife !! Cost was like $15.00

Absolutly correct. Also get it a little larger than you need and just trim off the excess.

Nicky, that's what I was gonna say. "Before long you won't be able to see the b/g for all the purple coralline." I would start with blue in the mean time though...

Thanks all, I just turned mine around. Unfortunatley it has mainly a freshwater scene. Green plants with drift wood, very pretty but not ocean like.
I was amazed at how much brighter it has made the tank. Unreal
I will now have to go and get the one with the nice blue background instead. It is really amazing how a dark color can really darken the whole tank.
Thanks for the replies :jumping:
