if you have a flood, yeah. But if not then all it's going to do is press the carpet down and leave a mark that can be remove by Vacumming. Just like the marks your furniture leaves..

I have mine on tile, and I am SO glad I do. Every time I do any kind of maintenance, I either drip or POUR out something on the tile.

I have mine on carpet, doesnt hurt anything. When you spill water, you just soak it up. But a bit of advice from my last couple days.......if it is on the 1st floor above your basement, make sure it is not above your furnace. I had a little bit of water overflowing, it soaked down through the floor boards and landed on the furnace......guess what is bad for electrical work, saltwater. cost me $250 to get the electronics repaired.....may sound stupid, but just some consideration

I have my tank on carpet and whenever I work on my tank, I lay a couple of old towels down in front to catch any water that may drip. Even if you soak up most of the water that spills, when the water does dry, the salt is still left behind in the carpet.

Yeah, same here. I have discovered through experience that walking on tile with salt on it is not the best experience.

And what's worse, my tank is in the guest entrance of my house. Just picture the guests walking in... and stepping... on salted tile.
