ok, so i have had my 50 gallon set up for roughtly 6 months, however bought the rock off of a person who had it set up about a year previous to that, i have about 85 lbs live rock, and roughtly 60 lbs sand (live by now) so today i decided to get some of that arga-alive fiji pink sand, and i added the twenty pounds to my sand bed, that was about 6 hours ago, i just turned on my lights now to see thousands of these little shrimp looking things floating around, they are still alive, however it seems that that power of the water is just pushing them around, but if i turn my powerheads off then they just kindof hover around the top, what should i do, will these things work their way back into the rock if i have the water current off?

Do not worry. They will find their way into the sand, if they do not then scoop them off of the top if they are dead. Keep the powerhead on.

what ever they are, they are PROBABLY beneficial. are there so many of them that you cant see the back of your tank, or just a few? do you have a good enough camera to take close up pics of the little guys? try going to the archives and looking through there to see if you can identify it. also do you have anything in your tank yet that these little guys could harm if they are a problem? (fish, coral etc)
you probably already know this but stop over feeding
keep running your filters, powerheads, other equiptment

thank you guys for the quick replies, what im worried about is these things are just kindof floating, i can see their legs moving, so i know they are alive, but my filter is on, so im worried what if these things all get sucked up into my filter?

ok, so from looking, i have decided that these things are either mysis, or just some type of pod, i hope they all dont die, i was hoping to get a mandarin in a few months

You cannot get a mandarine to thrive in that tank for at least 8 months. Get a large amount of LR and let it mature. Mandarines require at least 100+lbs of very mature rock. Do not worry about the floating things with legs. Run your system as you plan to keep it. They will either live or die. Either way, you will be running your system the same way.
