Here is another example of an awesome aquascape. It's by a guy named Dwayne (Flagswipe) on the big RC forum.

If you can see, most of the rock work is up and off the bottom of the tank - and there are many shelves - the rock work is also broken up into peaks and valleys.

If you really want fake looking live rock, get plastic rocks. Light, already pretty and don't need six months to cure propertly.
It’s a bitch keeping them fake looking though when they start covering over with coralline algae
