They are not reef safe. I have a 180 as well and started with my angels as juvies. So I wanted the best of both worlds, coral and angels. Well for a while my Emperor and Blueface left everything alone, but my french started right in. She taught my others how to graze. After a year or so, I had over $2K worth of beautiful coral, all show pieces and things were going well. I would miss a few zoos, but it was ok.
Once the emperor changed color and the angels got to about 5-6 inches, all hell broke loose. They ate all my mushrooms and zoos first. Then they ate all the leather and tree corals. Next came the beautiful stuff. 3 huge different colored hammers, a huge colony of 9 heads of frogspawn, and finally a giant torch were obliderated in the matter of weeks.
All I could do was say "oh well they told me so." Needless to say my tank is FOWLR now. The angels are lucky that I love them or they would be gone.
I picked up a nano a few months back and have gone nuts with that...think about your long term goals of the tank before you jump in head first.
Good luck
