I had an unfortunate occurance of two fish dying in my quarantine tank after recently purchasing them. One was a high fin banded goby and the other a long nosed hawkfish. After about two days in quarantine I found the goby cornered by the hawkfish and a chunks were missing from his back and face. He was still alive and I new he wouldn't make it long so I disposed of him as humanely as I thought was possible.
After being somewhat PO'd I turned off the lights and went to bed only to find the hawkfish stiff as a board the next day. Was the goby that he munched on poisonous?
I doubt it was an environmental problem that caused the hawk to die because I also had a strawberry pseudochromis in the tank that's doing just fine.
Overall those two fish were not a fun experience... And from what I read hawkfish don't bother other fish only small shrimp.
