Are hammer corals hard to keep?

hammers sometime make poor transitions into captivity. Once adjusted/accustomed they are hardy. Its possible the ones that died were already destined not to do well. I saw mine in the LFS for a month before I bought it (they had so many I wasn't worried about it being sold).

my hammer is in a high flow area, and he opens up huge. he is also under 250w MH about 12 inches from the light.
