They are great, just make sure they are clean. They can scratch glass/acrylic if sand or something gets between glass and magnet. Work great.

This is their only downside...

I can see them scratching acrylic but not glass, I've used them for years and they can not scratch glass

Hence one more reason to use LS and not CC

The sand scratched my glass, not Crushed coral thanks. Just be careful what is between it and the glass.

Don't know what kind of sand ya'll have but the mags on each of my tanks have some amount of sand in them and they have never scratched one of my glass tanks, when I had an acryllic nano it did get scratched, maybe I have just been lucky but I have never heard of sand scratching a glass tank and I really do not believe it is possible.

Hmm didnt know the sand could do it, but good to know... I have some CC in my sandbed and attributed my small scratches near the bottom of the glass to that.

My old tank at my office was scratched by sand when one of my youth tried to be helpful and clean the glass.
Only downside I can see...

I know this is very true of acrylic, but glass?

I am with you, that doesn't sound feasible unless the sand is blowing at really high speeds. Maybe they didn't notice the scratch from something else until the mag cleaned the algea?

We love all our mag-floats. Have them on all the tanks. Much better than sticking in your hands that could have something toxic on them. Better to have a scratch or two than dead fish, you know? Not that I know for sure that hand lotion would kill fish, but maybe if you've been cleaning or whatever.

Yes, they can only scratch glss if you pick up a piece of agrinite sand by going too close to the bottom and then the agronite will scratch your glass. Lesley

There is one other down side, minor as it is, if you place itnext to a powerhead (I leave mine in the tank all the time) it can increase resistance and make the powerhead run less efficientlly due to the magnet interfereing with the magnet in the motor, but the difference is unnoticable to the

eye, but can cause excess wear and heat, but this is only if you keep it next to a powerhead.
