I think the 150's should be suitable from anywere from 18 to 23 inches "depth from top to bottom of the tank" if the 175's were on there it would be about the same. And dont replace the bubls unless the ballast can take it. Im sure thoughs are built with a ballast made for "only" 2 150 watt mh bulbs.

ok cool, on the site the have the kits where it has 2 150's for $329 or 2 175's for $359
the reason i was asking of what ranges this setup would work for is because a friend of mine is giving me two tanks. one is a 55g and the other is a 120g. i'm new to SW tanks and was thinking of starting with the 55g because it seems like it would be cheaper to start with but i was wondering if this setup would be enough for the 120g if i decide to transfer everything to that down the road. i have also read that the larger the tank the easier it is to maintain...what do you suggest i do
sorry if im pulling this thread off-topic

I am not sure what to buy, should I add more flouresant and atnic light or should I jump up to the MH set up?
Problems I am trying to work out:
1, I have a canopy and I am not sure if the MH lighting can be kept under it due to heat and the height it would be from the water line.
2, I have a 36" 192W dual satielle system now, and if I just went with a second PC, I could increase my watts per gallon to over 4 or 5 or 6 for that matter for only about $100.
Any thoughts for my 75 gallon reef set up?

I don't know a whole lot but, I like them!

Tim does the unit fit under a tank canopy?

the mh bulbs provide something that pc's cant replicate. i have pc's over my tank, and wish i spent the extra $$ to go mh
dont get me wrong, im very happy with my pc's, but mh's would have given me more options...

The reason I went with them is what I plan to keep SPS and Clams are so delicate they need prestine water conditions anyway. So there not for a novice like me.

My legs were the same I had to mod my tank alittle but they fit now! lol. And for the fans mine are as quite as can be something "a wire" is probly rubbing the blades. When I turn mine on there quite. When I took it apart one of the wires moved to the fan and the fan was brushing it making it louder than normal. That can be fixed just by simply moving the wire.
