I bought one. I hope i didnt make a mistake. I only have 1 fish, 5 snails, a hermit, and a cleaner shrimp so far in my 55. So i'm sure i dont have a lot of protein yet.

IMO, they are one of the better 2, under 100$ skimmers on the market
for a 55 they should be fine

fshhub, if you dont have a skimmer personally, then how did you base your opinion? Just wondering.

lots and lots of research(on most of the skimmers on the market), id did when i was thinking about getting one for my 75(this tank is about 7 months young now), talking to those who have skimmers, and reading everything i could find on them, and no not advertisements either, i also do know lots of people with them, and such(i did say, IMO and not IME) :D
i also keep curent on them too, b/c i am trying to make it a skimmerless system(lucky so far) but am ready to get one if need be too, just so we do not have any problems, i am all for them and not against i do believe tehy are one of the best tools money can buy for an aquarium(but we wanted teh challenge)
for the record, in a smaller tank, for under 100$, the only 2 i would consider are
the prizm and the seaclones, personally

thats a fair enough answer. I have a prizm, and it seems to do a good job. If you buy one, make sure it will fit with your light hood(if you have one). I built my hood before the skimmer arrived and the collection cup is so tall I had to modify my hood afterwards. Oh well, poor planning on my part, but the hood is 4 1/2 inches obove top of the tank but the skimmer would not fit.

I have a Clone on my 55. It does a good job on the 55. From what I have read from other people who have had them I don't know if I would go above a 55 tank size. Keep the clone clean and it should clean for you nicely. I currently have 5 hermits 13 snails. 1 Snowflake eel 2 Clowns 1 Tom Clown and 2 damels.

I have one, also on a 55. They can be finicky!! But, mine produces a good amount of scum...
hey Kmart where in Indiana are you????

i've got one on my 55 and it has served me well. for under 100$ you cant beat it! the sea-clone can be use as a hang on or an in sump model ,which is a plus.

What are the "easy mods"? I have one from my 55 now on 125 and can only afford to add another (Only $65 at fishsupply). Need to get all I can out of em.

All I did to mine was shorten the tank end of the J tube so the powerhead was closer to the surface. Keep the sponge and air venture clean and it works awesome. I sent a prizm back before getting the Seaclone. Two reasons: too tall and very noisy, IMO.

i run a limewood airstone in mine,it helps out alot.i just drilled a hole in the center of the lid, and ran the air line through it.it's an easy mod and not much trouble to do.

The little swirl of bubbles produced in the seaclone does not offer enough contact between the water and air to efficiently skim proteins out of water. Two things that make a great skimmer... flow and contact time of water and air. The seaclone sucks at both of these.

possibly you had one of the old models that wasp lagued like that RR...the 1 we have on the 135 does great no probs ever...'cept the usually clean the prefilter & keep rest of clean...wwwhheeew thought we were the only ones that used it for large reef tank...glad we replaced that crappy airstone operated one in the 35 w/ sea clone too
