:) Could you tell me if these fish are compatible together in my fish-only 30 gallon tank? I haven't started yet... but I need to find a good mix of fish. :D
A pair of Ocellaris Clownfish
A purple firefish
A royal gramma
But I also would appreciate it if you all could suggest a good mixture of inverts to add onto my list, like which cleaner shrimp, crabs, or snails... :p
Thanks Everyone!!

How should I go about the cycling process if I don't have a Dansel fish. I want to use a Biological filter system... but could you tell me what I need for inverts in my tank?

Which inverts should I get? I only have a 30 gallon... Also... How much sand or crushed corral or gravel type stuff should I put on the bottom? And are the clown fish going to have a problem being in a fish-only tank, without an anemone?

From what I've heard, a royal gramma can be a real snot to any fish of the same color and size, so a purple firefish may not be the best choice to go with a "royal" gramma.
But hey... They may get along fine

I'm not sure if I plan on having live rock. I'm still trying to decide if I would also like live sand. Are these both good investments? If so how do they work? Do you need to change them ever?

I have a 36 gallon tank. I tried the Royal Gramma with the purple firefish. They fought terribly. The Gramma lost.
I am having huge problems with the purple firefish. He started out very shy. It was cute to watch him dart in and out of his favorite hole. I named him Mr. Peep after his behavior. That was a few months ago. Now, he thinks he owns the entire tank and is terrorizing the two clowns. We have plans to remove all the LR tonight to try to catch him for a return to the LFS. He sure is fast!!!
I most likely will pursue a regular firefish next. They are supposed to be the most peaceful of the type. Mr. Peep sure has been interesting to watch. I'm sad to see him go but it is a must. So, maybe a new firefish will be a good replacement.
As far as invertebrates go, I had a chocolate chip star. Caught him eating snails and crabs. Returned him to the LFS. We have turbo snails and blue legged crabs.
Good luck picking your tankmates.

Here is a suggestion before you even start setting up your tank...
Read into the hobby...learn what you need to know...read, read, read, and read somemore...
Learn all the basics....then think about setting up a tank.
