Arrgghh Ich - Harlequin

I can't believe it, my harlequin Tusk has ich - I have had him for 3 months and I quaratined him for 2 months prior to introducing him to my tank - plus I watched him for 6 weeks at the LFS - before I bought him. I can't believe it. I think he also has something else along with that - He is not using his one flipper and it looks like a white powdery substance is on his one fin, and on his body where the flipper leans against and it looks like it is decomposing a little. He hid all day yesterday so I knew something was up - sure enough, this morning when I turned on the lights he had ich and he was swimming with only one flipper, I swear I cannot win. Anybody know what the white substance is? My levels are ammonia - 0 nitrite - 0 nitrate- 20, ph 8.2, calcium 400 ppm.

Ah man Mygatt, I am sorry to hear that. It looks like a combination of ich and finrot/lymphocystis? I can't realy tell from the pic, but is the white on his right fin sticking up off of it? Well you know what you have to do now..........Good ol' Hypo.

Your sand bed doesn't look deep enough for him. they need about 4" or more to completely bury themselves to sleep or they stress out. If alone in the qt they don't care, but in the presence of other fish it becomes an issue.

Hmm, I have never heard of that before - thats good to know - I am taking out all of my live rock and hypoing the tank - the sand is very deep in some spots and very shallow in others - I have 80 lbs of sand in there - so there is defiently spots that are 4 inches deep? Maybe I'll add more sand - like 40 more lbs - to deepen it everywhere - it can only help your tank out anyways - it will be just that much more good bacteria - thanks dave.

Harlequin are not a Wrasse species that bury themselves, to sleep. Dont know where you've heard that.

I don't know wether your just a little kid trying to get attention, or what your deal is, but writing I hope you have a good time catching your fish after everyone of my comments throughout the board pretty much is very immature and it sucks. This is the third time you have written it in an hour - I do not know if you have ever had ich or another disease rampage your tank, but its not fun. I could lose some very expensive fish and it takes many hours out of my life in which I would rather be doing other things, so like the old saying says - if you do not have anything nice to say - keep it to yourself
