arrow crabs reef safe???

please if anyone has one of these can they post their experience witht hem, i was gonna get one but have heard that they can go for little fish and other inverts and have read stories in books about them spearing a cardinal!

my buddy has one and told me his is pretty harmless. I'm not sure though cause I have never owned one myself.

I wouldn't take a chance on them :nervous: Sometimes they like to snack on small fish.

My experince was to watch my $5 crab eat my $20 clownfish. Of course I cannot be sure if the clwon was sick or dying to start with, but I will not have one in my tank. Too bad because they are pretty cool looking.

At my LFS, they have them in with damsels and tangs and when I asked him about it, he said he never had problems in semi aggressive tanks, but wouldn't put them in anything else.
He also has a 150 g tank though so space may lend to the lack of loss!
Personally from what I have read/heard, I wouldnt put them in my tank

They can be reef safe but they will eat all your snails. Mine ate all my snails one by one.

i've had one for 2months, never did anything to my fish. in fact he is really scared of anything that's too close to him, he's really fun to watch. i have 2 really small clown fish in there too, an he hasn't bothered them at all. i have 30 hermit crabs and 10 snails, and i lost 2 hermits in 2 month... idont know if it's related to the arrowcrab. i have a pic of him standing by his old body carapace after molting, it's pretty cool... i love mine. ppl who come to my house, always ask me what's that "freaky daddy long leg spider" in there. my mother in law thinks that my cleaner shrimps are spiders too . ppl told me not to get an arrow crab but i got one anyway.. and im very happy with it... so far. he grows fast though... i'll tell you if he becomes a killer.

i just got one about a week ago so far so good (knock on wood) He doesn't seem to care about the fish or anything else. I've only seem him harass my cleaner shimp once but wasn't really getting anywhere with that. Doesn't pay any attention to my snails or crabs either. Not that i've witnessed anyways. Honestly i find that my peppermint shimp are more of a pain than anything else in my tank! I did see my arrow crab picking at my colt coral today though. But it's the first time i've seen that and i just scared him off right away. So who knows. . . I'll let ya know if he really starts to mess crap up.

in the past 10 years, I have had 2 arrow crabs and never had any problems with either-had them at 2 seperate times. Mine liked freezed dried shrimps for treats. as long as you keep them well fed, I would try it.

My experience with them is that they will eat your smaller fish especially at night when they are easier to catch.
Years gone by, I have had a couple of them.

my arrow crab attacked a powerhead intake today. needless to say he is no longer with us.

he never bothered anything while he was alive

My peppermint seems to harass everything. I've seem one rip a sarlet hermit out of it's shell and eat it. (i thought i was feeding it enough) The other day i gave my new bbta a piece of cocktail shimp and my peppermint was going nuts on my bbta untill i finally gave it it's own piece so it would back off. Just over time it seems that my hermit crabs slowly dissappear. i know it's my freakin peppermint shirmp eating them.
