Hi all. I was watching a show about crabs on the Discovery Channel last night (awsome - I was house sitting, don't have cable myself)... Anyway, they mentioned that these crabs have really long legs/claws and can get stuff outta the rock that others cannot. Hmmm should I get one?
50gal long, FOWLR, 70lbs LR, 65lbs dsb, Fluval 304 (for now), Skilter (for now), powerheads etc.
1 Purple Tang (Francis)
1 Yellow-Head Sleeper Goby (Sam)
1 Scooter Blenny (Rocky)
2 Percula Clowns (Harry & Ron)
1 Serpent Star (Star)
1 Cleaner Shrimp (Simon da Shrimp)
3 Pepperment Shrimp (Christopher, Lady & Champ)
10 Hermits (various sizes)
6 Snails (Bumble Bee, Turbo, Astralia (spall))

I havent heard to much about these guys. Also i heard they are a little tricky to keep in captivity, well at least thats what i heard at my lfs.I WANT ONE!

I've never seen an aroow crab eat a fish. i just saw them picking at the sand and looking for little bugs to eat. my lfs said they were reef safe. Mby someone else can help with this one.

They are aggressive crabs, with a tendency to prey on shrimps (i've seen them take out a Coral Banded shrimp even) and small fish. They are meat eating crabs, and can get fairly large...small body but huge legs. They are cool looking but be carefull!

I visit one at the LFS every saturday. Think they are really neat but won't buy him. Every time I visit he has a fish and is chowing down. I don't know if he caught the fish or is just cleaning up the tank when the fish died...but I have been visiting him weekly for a few months and he always has a fish to eat, and not the feeder fish either. We are talking $20-30 fish.
I won't take the chance...so I just visit him. the LFS takes real good care of him for me.

Okay, so, no sally lightfoot and no arrow crab. are there any cool looking crabs (not hermits) that are *not* agressive to fish and shrimp?

I have a smaller arrow that is really cool to watch and a large sally that hasn't hurt anything yet.
I would say get what you want and then watch them closely to make sure they don't attack your fish. I am very happy I decided to get an arrow crab. It was only $3 and it is the most interesting thing in my tank. It never hides and it is cool to watch it catch brine or evn flakes
