ASM G2 and G3 owners

How much skim mate does your skimmer produce? I read somewhere that it is supposed to fill up daily. I don't undertand this becasue mine only needs emptied once per week and even then it's not that full. My nitrates are less than 10 but not zero. I have an extremely low bio load on the tank with only a medium yellow tang, a adult clownfish and a very small clown in a 180.
I guess I'm worried my G2 isn't working as it should.
BTW, I get very wet skim mate as well...

I have a G3. I adjust mine so I empty a 3/4 collection cup weekly. The fluid is dark and the side is caked.
I think your G2 is working as designed. Filling a collection cup daily is too agressive, IMO.

Well that's good to hear becasue I thought I was over skimming with the skim mate being as wet as it is. I was going to get the G3 but I didn't think it would fit under my stand and I get the G2 in there and there's like 6 inches to spare...

I really depends on your bioload. With the low bioload your tank has, I don't think it will pull all that much skimmate. It can't clean what is dirty.

i run an ASM-G4 on my 180 and i did the mesh mod... thats where u take out the needle wheel impeller and u break off all needles take the mesh product double it up cut to fit and zip tie on place to the disk.... now u use the mesh to cut up the air and water instead of the needle wheel and it does a lot better of a job....
on a G-4 it has a very large collection cup and i still only empty it once a week but its gets very dark and very smelly..... its kinda a simple mod that works very welll... its probably doubled my skimmers performance versus using the stock needlewheel

Murph, I'll keep that mod in mind as my bio load increases. Were you the one that had some pictures on here showing how you did the mod?
