ASM G3 Skimmer problem

Ok, I've got this skimmer in a 30 gal. sump. My tank is 240gal. I have the tube that slides up and down to adjust how fast it runs in the farthest down position (running as slow as possible) and the bubbles are still foaming over into the collection cup and within a few minutes are overflowing out of the cup and into the sump. Anyone know how to cure this? Thanks.

Check the air supply line to see if it's clogged and/or run a small drill bit down the venturi pipe on the intake to be sure it's not clogged...

What do the bubbles look like in the body of the skimmer????? If you hold your finger over the air tube as mentioned you should notice the bubbles actually thin out and become nonexistent, and should overflow the skimmer cup......I would try pulling the venturi or volute off the pump and checking from there up.....Just a small piece of junk will mess with them.......A G3 is rather small for that size tank

Maybe it is the air supply line as it was making kind of a slurping noise as if there was some liquid caught in there. I'll hafta' look into that.

Yeah, the bubbles are very small and very thick - its actually a foam that ends up filling the collection cup. If I extend the slider tube up it really sends the foam flying. I'm going to take the skimmer apart and check it out asap.

What happens when you put the adjustment tube all the way down??? If your getting good thick foam your problem isn't goin to be found in the airline.....If your not getting airflow through the line then you wouldn't have thick foam rising......What is the water depth of the skimmer? This will also affect things as well

A picture would help. I have a asm3. do you add iodine/stress coat or anything like that?

Is the skimmer brand new? Mine did the same thing no matter what I did for about 3-4 days. I just sat back and watched it. After that it just calmed down and now skims like a demon. Just be patient.

No it is used, but after I bought it I cleaned it all out and it is being used on a new setup. Maybe the water is too clean for it yet - guess I'll try it again in a couple days. Thanks.

Mine does the same thing when my filter bag overflows. Its just the skimmer doing its job. You can do a gate valve modification or lower your outlet even more with a saw.
