hi, i've notice that my Astraea snails which i have ten have basically stopped moving and they all have flipped
themselves on their shells. they don't move at all but all of them are alive if i distrub them they will move some
also my snails seem to be very lethargic, they barely move at all. ph,sg, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and ammonia are all normal. i have no idea whats going on. anyone that can give some info would be great

WELL...first...welcome to SWF
2nd: Can you post actual test readings in stead of just saying normal?
Can you tell us all about your tank, size, filtration, age, contents etc....
By the way...ASTREA are the snails that CAN NOT turn themselves back over, so you have to right them

thanks for the reply. ammonia was 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, ph 8.4, sg 1.022, phosphate 0., i dont have any other chemical test kits so if there any other things i n eed to trst for please let me no. well my tank is a 40gal, its 16 months old running a marineland bio wheel system with carbon and im running a phosphate bag. right now ive got a clown, blue hippo tang, purple fire fish, blue and red hermits and ten snails, runnning galaxea coral and a green austrailian elegance coral. i have flipped the snails back over but they move very little and they end up on their shells within an hour or so. also noticed corals not opening as much as usual most likely related problem. running coral life lunar aqualight with 96watt 10000k, and a 96watt actinic. if u have any ideas let me no. thanks.

how long have you had the snails? did you acclimate them?
i have a tuff time believing you have 0 NO3 if you're running a biowheel, but maybe you do. but it honestly sounds like a water issue, whether whatever it is shows up or not. i'd do a large WC (at least 25%) and see if it helps...it can't hurt.

Suggestion #1....get the hippo out ofthe 40G....How big is it? You do know they get really really big, and are suggested minimum tank size of 100G....
How often do you clean your bio wheel?
Both corals you mentioned need strong lighting....I don't really think pcs are good enough for them....How long have you had the corals?
Do you have a picture of your tank? How often do you do water changes? Do you use tap or ro/di water? Do you add anything to the tank? What do you feed?
Sg could be a little higher....1.025 IMO is a good #

well thanks for the suggestions. i did a 10gal water change 2 days ago which was 2 days after this started thinking that there might have been an issue with water but nothing still the same. i use ro water. as far as the hippo right now its around 3 inches. the corals have been in there for about 6 months. the water changes and bio wheel cleanings are once a month.and as far as added chemicals i use a ph buffer and i add iodide for the corals. for food i use ocean nutrition pellets. and i use seaweed on a clips for the hippo. i could see if i can upload some pics later on. it just has me kinda worried. but i have seen no affects on the fish at all they seem perfectly normal.

Well first of all you need to get your fish some real food....Get some frozen mysis, marine cuisine, emerald entree
Pellets are potato chips....Feed the frozen daily, and maybe a tiny pinch of pellets 1x a week as a snack....Pellets can also be a reason for higher nitrates.
I would seriously consider finding a new home for the hippo though
