atlantic blue tang

I have a 55 gallon tank and I really love tangs :happyfish They are by far one of the beautiful fishies IMO. I'm really interested in the atlantic blue tang and in one of my fish books it says it can grow to 13.7 inches. Do you think it would be suitable and happy in a 55 gallon? I also would like to add a purple anthias, royal gramma, percula, mandarin dragonet, and possibly a sixline wrasse. I don't think it would be overcrowded with 5-6 other peaceful fish... Oh yeah it will have some corals and anemones. Thanks in advance!

As I am FAR from the tang police, i would unfortunatley say that I have not heard good things about blues in that small of a tank

the one i saw at the lfs was a yellow sailfin tang (that's what he told me) But now that i see it in my book it looks more like a yellow tang. I really want a colorful one with vibrant variating colors. I'm not to fond of the yellow ones.

Try an Atlantic Yellow..Maybe even a Lemonpeel Angel..Definitely no on the Sailfin, really up to you on a Hawaiin Yellow..Most will say no though...

i would steer away from a tang if u only have a 55. tangs have been kept successfuly in that size of a tank, but i would not advise it.

alright. I'd like to find something that's colorful and peaceful that's a little bigger then my 2-3 inch fish on my stocklist. I've searched all kinds of books and I dunno. :notsure: That really bursted my bubble.

the clown tang calls for a 90 gallon whereas the atlantic blue tang called for a 75 gallon. Thanks though. I didn't like the lemonpeel (dont' care for yellow fishes that much).

well what should I believe? I don't want to take every word from my lfs because they want $$$ and i bought an encyclopedia of marine life and reef secrets...they all said the same thing. I'm just comparing what i read with what others say to get the most knowledge before i go out and buy a fish.

I think that i'm gonna switch from a tang to an angelfish. The flame angelfish looks very nice and brightly colored and it says it won't get that big so I think that's what I will get instead :jumping: I don't have anything on my list that's red so....

I belive you could keep a Kole Tang in your 55. As of what I've heard they are the best suited for smaller aquariums. Just my 0.2$.

I love my yellow eye Kole. Marronish red color with stripes and that yellow eye really sticks out. Suited for a 55 if you have plenty of live rock and the tank is matured. Same with the mandarin, needs ALOT of rock work as they ONLY eat live pods.

thanks for all the opinions. I really really like the Flame angel. The coral beauty is pretty too. I can only have one angelfish right? Or can I have a male Flame and a female coral beaut? If I cant' i think i'll go with the flame.
